WHO WE ARE

ABOUT US

Harbor House is located in a residential neighborhood in South Charlotte. Having a maximum capacity of only five women, Harbor House enables individualized support and programming to meet our guests where they are, and empower them to build their lives in recovery. We are conveniently located within walking distance of the Greenway, daily recovery meetings, and public transportation.

our name

The name “Harbor House” is inspired by the definition of a harbor as a place of shelter, especially one protected from rough waters, and from its illustrations in recovery literature. We aspire to be that place for our guests as we help them transition to long-term recovery.

our founder

Kristen is the owner of Harbor House and has been working with those affected by substance use issues since she began her recovery journey in August of 2017, first as a sober house manager, and later when she earned her Master’s Degree in Addiction and Co-Occurring Disorders Counseling from Hazelden Betty Ford Graduate School of Addiction Studies. Kristen also formalized her training in the life coaching space through the Institute for Life Coach Training (ILCT). She brings a strengths perspective to setting personal goals with an emphasis on how these relate to recovery.

Kristen’s experience

Her clinical experience with women at all levels of care informs her philosophy on the importance of practicing and reinforcing newfound recovery skills in the safe harbor of a sober living home. Her experience and evidence based training informs the belief that vibrant recovery involves trying new experiences and connecting with others in a safe environment. Harbor House is dedicated to fostering this connection and monitoring for safety and symptoms of addiction along the way.
